"Give us the code to stop a SIM-swap"

Some scammers do it the easy way — they get you to help. You get a call: *"This is your network's fraud department. Someone is trying to SIM-swap your number. To STOP it, read us the OTP we've just sent you."*

That code does the opposite of what they say. Reading it out actually approves the swap, or gives them access to an account.

What to do: never read out a code to anyone who phoned you, no matter what they claim it's for. If you're worried about a SIM-swap, hang up and call your network on its official number.
