"Burglars are nearby — hand us your valuables"

Another version of the same trick: a "police officer" warns that a burglary gang is active in your street and your cash and jewellery are no longer safe at home. *"Please gather everything and hand it to a colleague who will keep it secure for you."*

To seem convincing, the caller may tell you to dial 110 to "check" them — but they keep the line open so you reach them, not the real police. A courier (sometimes called the "Abholer") then arrives to collect your savings, gold, and valuables, which you never see again.

The police will never collect your money or valuables for "safekeeping."

What to do: hang up. If you're worried, dial 110 yourself — ideally from a different phone, so the line is truly free — and never hand anything to a stranger at your door.
